Overview

Use this guide to learn where to find each tool, move quickly between features, and access account management. Follow the steps below to get around Law Cyborg with confidence.

Understanding the Layout

Law Cyborg has two main areas:

  • Research tools — where you ask questions, analyse documents, and search

  • Account management — where you manage your profile, team, billing, and organisation settings.
    All tools are available from the navigation bar at the top of the screen.

Using the Main Navigation Bar

The navigation bar stays visible across all pages so you can switch tools fast.

Logo and Home

Click the Law Cyborg logo (top-left) to return to the home page.

Primary research tools

Use the navigation bar to access three main tools:

Select your profile icon (bottom left of the interface while logged in) to open:

  • Account: profile, security, products & billing, users, settings

  • Help: support and help resources

  • Sign out: log out of your account

Using Law Cyborg AI (Primary research tool)

Law Cyborg AI provides conversational legal research across Australian and New Zealand law.

Access Law Cyborg AI

  1. Click Law Cyborg AI in the navigation bar.

  2. Select your practice area.

Interface elements

  • Chat input field — type your question in the question box

  • Think button — always on to enable for more comprehensive answers

  • Chat settings — adjust settings for the current conversation

  • Clear / New chat — start a fresh conversation

  • Examples — sample prompts to get started

  • Capabilities & limitations — important information about what the AI can and cannot do

Ask a question

  1. Select a practice area

  2. Type your question in the input field and press Enter.

  3. Review the answer and check the citations. Clicking on the citations will take you to the part of the source Law Cyborg relied on.

  4. Ask follow-up questions to refine your research.
    Tip: Ask the AI to use a diagram when it helps—e.g., “Explain this as a diagram.”

Capabilities and limitations

What it can do

  • Conversational answers with follow-ups

  • Explain complex concepts clearly

  • Point you to further reading and sources

  • Provide practice-area-specific research

    Important:

  • You are responsible for verifying sources and accuracy.

  • Law Cyborg may struggle with complex math calculations.

  • Answers provided by Law Cyborg are not a substitute for professional legal advice.

Using Document Analyser

Upload documents and ask questions about their contents.

Access Document Analyser

Click Document Analyser in the navigation bar.

Analyse documents

  1. Drag and drop files into the upload zone (or click to select).

  2. Wait for upload confirmation.

  3. Ask questions about the documents.

  4. Review answers based only on the uploaded files.

    Capabilities

  • Create lists from document content

  • Summarise documents

  • Compare sections across multiple documents

  • Extract specific information

  • Analyse multiple documents together

    Limitations

  • No legal technical knowledge (general reasoning only)

  • No citations

  • Not conversational (each query is independent)

  • Documents are deleted when you leave the page if chat history is disabled
    Important: If your organisation has disabled chat history, uploaded documents are permanently deleted when you navigate away. Download any results you need before leaving.

Using Depreciation Rate Finder

Find Inland Revenue asset classifications and depreciation rates.

Access the tool

Click Depreciation Rate Finder in the navigation bar.

Look up a rate

  1. Enter an asset description (e.g., “laptop computer”, “office desk”, “company vehicle”).

  2. Optionally select industry to improve accuracy.

  3. Click Submit.

  4. Review the classification and rate.

    What it can do

  • Classify assets per Inland Revenue guidance

  • Recognise industry-specific asset descriptions

  • Accept multi-language asset descriptions

  • Suggest a rate based on the asset’s meaning

    Limitations

  • You must verify accuracy

  • May not detect when a default rate should apply

  • Not conversational (each query is independent)

Account Management

Open Account from your user menu (top-right). A sidebar on the left groups settings into the sections below.

Profile

Access: Account → Profile

  • Edit your name, email, organisation, contact number, and invoice email.

  • Click Save to apply changes.
    Note: Changing your email updates your login email.

Password

Access: Account → Password

  1. Enter your Old password.

  2. Enter your Create new password.

  3. Click Save password.
    Important: Store your new password securely.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Access: Account → 2FA

  • Default: Disabled.

  • Recommendation: Enable 2FA, especially if you handle sensitive client information.
    Enable 2FA

  1. Click Enable 2FA.

  2. Follow the prompts to set up your authenticator app.

  3. Use your password and the verification code to sign in.

Products & Billing (Owners only)

Access: Account → Products & Billing (tabs: Products, Card, Invoices)

Products tab

The Products tab displays all licenses linked to your organisation's subscription. From here, you can:

  • View the total number of available and assigned licenses

  • Purchase additional base plan or practice area licenses by clicking Purchase Licenses

  • See your total monthly subscription cost, shown at the bottom of the Purchase Licenses menu

Card tab

The Card tab lets you manage your organisation's payment method.

  • View your current payment card on file.

  • To update your card, enter the new card details in the secure form.

  • Click Update Card to save your changes.

Invoices tab

The Invoices tab lists your organisation's billing history.

  • View all past invoices, including invoice number, date, status, and total amount.

  • Click the download icon in the Actions column to download an invoice as a PDF.

  • Your billing cycle is visible at the top of the screen, and aligns with your original subscription start date.

Users (Owners and Admins)

Access: Account → Users
Manage your team and allocate licences.

Click to edit user details (display name base plan, permissions, practice areas)

  • Owner — full account control; one owner per account; can access all settings and billing.

  • Admin — manage users and assign licences; cannot change organisation-wide settings or billing.

  • User — standard access to assigned tools; no admin capabilities.
    For details, see Understanding User Roles & Permissions.
    Manage team members

  • Add users: Click Add user, enter details, assign licences, and Send invite.

  • Edit users: Click the notebook icon, update details or permissions, and Save.

  • Delete users: Click the delete icon, then confirm.

  • Resend invitations: Click Resend invite for previously Invited users. Invitations are only valid for one hour after they are sent.

Settings (Owner only)

Access: Account → Settings
These switches apply to all users in your organisation.

  1. Chat history (default: Enabled)

    • When enabled: conversations save; chat history panel available; Document Analyser files persist.

    • When disabled: no conversation history
      Note: Toggling off then on permanently deletes existing chat history for all users.

  2. Hide answer feedback (default: Disabled)

    • When enabled: removes “Report answer” and feedback buttons.

    • When disabled: users can report answers to the Law Cyborg team.

  3. Disable document uploader (default: Disabled)

    • When enabled: removes Document Analyser from navigation.

    • When disabled: document upload is available.

  4. Disable General AI (default: Disabled)

    • When enabled: hides the General practice area.

    • When disabled: General is available to all users.

  5. Disable Depreciation Rate Finder (default: Disabled)

    • When enabled: removes the tool from navigation.

    • When disabled: the tool is available.
      Save changes

  6. Review settings.

  7. Click Save.

  8. Changes apply immediately.

Additional Interface Features

Chat history panel (when enabled)

Access: Click the clock icon (top-right) in Law Cyborg AI. See Using Chat History for full details.

Download conversations

  1. Click the download icon (top-right) while viewing a conversation.

  2. Choose .pdf or .docx. Downloads include your questions, Law Cyborg’s answers, and citations.

Troubleshooting

Problem: I can't see the Users or Settings options.

Solution: Access to these options depends on your role. Ask your Owner or Admin to grant permissions.

Problem: A tool disappeared in the app.

Solution: Your account Owner may have disabled it in Settings. Ask them to re-enable the tool. If they are struggling to do so, or the issue remains after re-enabling, contact support.

Problem: I can't find my chat history.

Solution: Look for the clock icon in the top right of the screen while Law Cyborg AI is open; your organisation may have chat history disabled. If it was toggled off then on, previous chat history may have been deleted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the difference between Law Cyborg AI and Document Analyser?

A: Use Law Cyborg AI for questions that need legal knowledge and sources. Use Document Analyser to query the contents of your own files (no legal technical knowledge, no citations).

Q: Can I access features my organisation has disabled?

A: No. Organisation settings apply to all users and can only be changed by the Owner.

Q: How do I switch practice areas in Law Cyborg AI?

A: While in Law Cyborg AI, select a different practice area using the AI dropdown selector in the middle of the screen at the top of the page. You can only select practice areas that have been assigned to your user.

Q: Where can I see which practice areas I have?

A: Check the AI dropdown selector to see your assigned practice. If you don’t see a practice area you expect, ask your Admin or Owner to assign it.
