Using Chat History

Edited

Who this is for: All users

Overview

Chat history contains a list of your past conversations with Law Cyborg's research tools, and makes it easy to revisit, continue, and download past conversations. Every question you ask, and answer that you receive back, is automatically saved, making it easy to reference past work, track your research over time, and compile information for client matters.

This article explains how to access, search, and make the most of your chat history.

What Is Chat History?

Chat history is your personal archive of every conversation you've had with Law Cyborg.

What's Included:

  • ✅ Every question you've asked

  • ✅ Every answer Law Cyborg provided in response

  • ✅ Timestamps (when you asked each question)

  • ✅ Practice area context (which AI you were using when you asked the question)

What's NOT Included:

  • ❌ Other users' conversations (completely private to you)

  • ❌ Conversations from before chat history was enabled, if it has been turned off previously and then later turned back on

Note: Chat history is enabled by default and stores conversations indefinitely. Only your account Owner can disable it for the organisation. Chat history is either on for all users, or off for all users—there is no ability to toggle availablity of chat history per users.

How to Access Chat History

Opening the Chat History Panel

  1. While logged in and viewing the 'Law Cyborg AI' interface, look for the clock icon in the top-right of the interface

  2. Click the icon to open the chat history panel

The panel will slide out from the right side of the screen, showing a list of your past conversations.

Each entry shows:

  • Preview of your first question in each conversation (first ~50 characters)

  • Timestamp (time and day, only shown when you hover your cursor over an entry)

Note: Entries are sorted by date (most recent first), so scroll down for older research

Searching your Chat History

At the top of the chat history panel, you'll find a search box:

  1. Click into the search box

  2. Type keywords related to the conversation you're looking for (what you type will be matched against the words in your first question in each conversation)

  3. Results filter automatically as you type

Viewing Past Conversations

Opening a Conversation

  1. Find the conversation in your chat history (browse or search)

  2. Hover over the entry to see the exact timestamp of the conversation

  3. Click the entry to open the full conversation

The conversation will load in the main chat area, showing:

  • Your original question, and any follow up questions you asked in the conversation

  • Law Cyborg's answers to each question

  • All citations (clickable links still work)

Tip: You can revisit converation threads at any time to build on your previous research by asking follow-up questions.

Downloading Conversations

From History Panel

  1. Open chat history

  2. Click on the chat history entry for the conversation you want to download to open the full conversation

  4. Click the .pdf or .docx buttons that appear to download the conversation as a PDF document or a Microsoft Word document

From Active Conversation

  1. While in an active conversation, click the download icon (down arrow) in the top right of the interface to open the download options

  2. Click the .pdf or .docx buttons that appear to download the conversation as a PDF or a Microsoft Word document

What's Included in Downloaded Conversations

  • Your questions - Your questions asked during the conversation (includes follow-ups)

  • Law Cyborg's answers - Law Cyborg's full responses to your questions

  • All citations - The sources that Law Cyborg relied on to provide your answer Note: In downloaded answers, in‑text citations are not hyperlinked—unlike in the app—however, the corresponding full citations in the References section beneath each answer remain hyperlinked

Use Cases for Downloaded Conversations

  • Client files: save research relevant to a matter directly into the client's file for your records

  • Team collaboration: share specific research with colleagues by emailing them the downloaded document

  • Compliance and record-keeping: maintain documentation of research conduct for audit trails and your organisation's records

  • Knowledge management: build a library of research on common issues for your organisation

When Chat History is Disabled

If your account Owner has disabled chat history for your organisation:

You cannot:

  • Access past conversations

  • Download previous conversations

You can still:

  • Use Law Cyborg normally

  • Ask questions and get answers

  • Download the current conversation before closing it

Note: Only the Owner can enable or disable chat history. This is an organisation-wide setting that affects all users.

Troubleshooting Chat History

Problem: My past conversations are gone

Possible reason:

  • Chat history was recently disabled and re-enabled (this erases history)

Solution:

  • Check with your account Owner if chat history was recently toggled

  • Contact support to investigate

Problem: Search isn't finding a conversation I know exists

Solution:

  • Try different keywords from that conversation

  • Scroll manually through chat history (sorted by date)

Download to PDF/Word Document isn't working

Solution:

  • Check your browser's pop-up blocker (may be blocking the download)

  • Check your Downloads folder (it may have downloaded without a notification)

  • Try a different browser

  • Contact support if issue persists

Privacy and Security

Is my chat history private?

Yes. Your chat history is completely private to you. Other users in your organisation cannot see your conversations, even Owners and Admins.

Exception: If you elect to manually report an answer for review, Law Cyborg staff can see that specific conversation (questions and answers) to investigate the issue. When reporting an answer, you can choose whether your report is anonymised. Additionally, all Law Cyborg staff that review reports are bound by strict non-disclosure agreements, so none of that information can be shared with other parties.

Can my Owner see my chat history?

No. Owners can enable or disable chat history for the organisation, but they cannot view individual users' conversations.

Where is chat history stored?

Chat history is stored securely with full encryption on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in Sydney. It is not stored locally on your computer, so you can access it from any device when you log in.

Can I export all my chat history at once?

Currently, you need to download conversations individually as PDFs or Word Documents.
