Overview
Law Cyborg's Outlook integration lets you browse, search, and attach emails (and their attachments) from Outlook directly into your conversations, no forwarding, copy-pasting, or downloading required. Once connected, your Outlook mailbox appears alongside the regular document uploader so you can reference correspondence when asking questions.
If you also use SharePoint or OneDrive with Law Cyborg, the setup pattern is the same see Connecting SharePoint & OneDrive to Law Cyborg.
Before you start
There are two steps to getting Outlook working:
An Account Owner or Admin enables Outlook for your organisation. This is a one-time setup that grants Law Cyborg permission to access your organisation's Outlook.
Each team member links their own Microsoft account. This ensures every person can only see emails they already have access to in Outlook.
If you are a regular team member (not an Owner or Admin), skip to Step 2: Link your Microsoft account below.
Step 1: Enable Outlook for your organisation (Owners & Admins only)
Navigate to Organisation Settings.
Scroll to Integrations and click Set Up on the Outlook card.
Login with your Microsoft Account and grant permissions to LC.
A Microsoft sign-in window will appear. Sign in with a Microsoft account that has admin privileges for your organisation.
Review the permissions and click Accept. Law Cyborg only requests read-only access to mail it will never send, modify, or delete emails in your Outlook.
The window will close automatically and you'll see a success message. Outlook is now enabled for your entire team.
As the Admin who enabled the integration, your own Microsoft account is linked automatically you can start attaching emails straight away. You'll need to make sure that you are also an admin of your Microsoft 365 tenant. If not, you'll need to change the Owner of your LC account to an existing Microsoft 365 Admin.
Step 2: Link your Microsoft account (all users)
Once an Admin has enabled Outlook for your organisation:
Open the Outlook integration panel in Law Cyborg.
Click Link Outlook Account.
Sign in with your Microsoft account in the pop-up window.
The window will close automatically once connected. You're all set.
Don't see the option to link? Request access
If Outlook hasn't been enabled for your organisation yet, you'll see a message saying "Enable Outlook for your organisation." Click Request Integration and an email will be sent to your account's Owner or Admin asking them to enable it.
Attaching Outlook emails to a conversation
Once your account is linked:
Start a new conversation or open an existing one.
Click the attach icon (the paperclip) and choose Outlook or from the Outlook icon in the left side bar.
Browse your mailbox folders (such as Inbox or Sent Items), or use the search bar to find a specific email by subject, sender, or keyword. The first emails displayed are your most recent emails.
Select one or more emails (you can multi-select). Selecting an email selects all emails in the chain (i.e. any replies or previous emails).
Any attachments on an email need to be selected separately, using the drop down menu.
The selected emails are uploaded into your conversation, and you can ask questions about them, or use them for providing additional context.
Emails and attachments you attach from Outlook follow the same limits as regular uploads: up to 20 documents per conversation, each up to 10 MB. Imported emails are scoped to the conversation they were added to and don't appear in other conversations.
Access, data storage & permissions
Access
The integration is read-only and uses delegated OAuth on a per-user basis there is no shared service account. The specific Microsoft permissions (scopes) requested are: Mail.Read, User.Read, plus the standard identity scopes (openid, profile, email, offline_access). Law Cyborg can only see emails the signed-in user already has access to in Outlook. It cannot send, modify, or delete anything in your Outlook environment.
Data storage
Law Cyborg does not maintain a mirror, index, or cache of your Outlook mailbox. The only time email content leaves Outlook is when a user explicitly selects a specific email to import into a conversation, at which point it is stored short-term as per our standard data-handling policies. No background syncing or bulk copying occurs.
Permissions & user isolation
Each user must individually link their own Microsoft account. All Outlook requests are made using that user's own token, meaning one user cannot see another user's emails through Law Cyborg the same access boundaries that exist in Outlook are fully respected. Account Owners and Admins control whether the integration is enabled for the organisation at all, and all authentication tokens are encrypted at rest.
Troubleshooting
I'm asked to re-link my account
If your Microsoft session has expired or your refresh token has been revoked (for example, if your IT team reset permissions), Law Cyborg will prompt you to link your account again. Simply click Link Outlook Account and sign in again your conversations and previously attached emails are not affected.
The sign-in pop-up didn't appear or was blocked
Some browsers block pop-ups by default. Make sure pop-ups are allowed for app.lawcyborg.com in your browser settings, then try again.
I see "Enable Outlook for your organisation"
This means an Account Owner or Admin hasn't enabled the integration yet. Click Request Integration to notify them, or ask them to follow Step 1 above.
Emails aren't loading or the page crashed
Try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, make sure your browser is up to date. If you're still experiencing problems, contact us via the chat widget
