Connecting SharePoint & OneDrive to Law Cyborg

Updated today

Overview

Law Cyborg's SharePoint integration lets you browse, search, and attach documents stored in SharePoint Online or OneDrive directly into your conversations — no downloading and re-uploading required. Once connected, your SharePoint files appear alongside the regular document uploader so you can reference them when asking questions.

Before you start

There are two steps to getting SharePoint working:

  1. An Account Owner or Admin enables SharePoint for your organisation. This is a one-time setup that grants Law Cyborg permission to access your organisation's SharePoint.

  2. Each team member links their own Microsoft account. This ensures every person can only see files they already have access to in SharePoint.

If you are a regular team member (not an Owner or Admin), skip to Step 2 — Link your Microsoft account below.

Step 1 — Enable SharePoint for your organisation (Owners & Admins only)

  1. Scroll to 'Integrations' and click ‘Set-up’

  2. Login with your Microsoft Account and grant permissions to LC

  3. A Microsoft sign-in window will appear. Sign in with a Microsoft account that has admin privileges for your organisation.

  4. Review the permissions and click Accept. Law Cyborg only requests read-only access to files and sites — it will never modify, delete, or create files in your SharePoint.

  5. The window will close automatically and you'll see a success message. SharePoint is now enabled for your entire team.

As the Admin who enabled the integration, your own Microsoft account is linked automatically — you can start attaching documents straight away. You'll need to make sure that you are also an admin of your SharePoint account. If not you’ll need to change the Owner of your LC account to an existing Sharepoint Admin

Step 2 — Link your Microsoft account (all users)

Once an Admin has enabled SharePoint for your organisation:

  1. Open the SharePoint integration panel in Law Cyborg.

  2. Click Link SharePoint Account.

  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account in the pop-up window.

  4. The window will close automatically once connected. You're all set.

Don't see the option to link? Request access

If SharePoint hasn't been enabled for your organisation yet, you'll see a message saying "SharePoint isn't enabled yet." Click Request Integration and an email will be sent to your account's Owner or Admin asking them to enable it.

Attaching SharePoint documents to a conversation

Once your account is linked:

  1. Start a new conversation or open an existing one.

  2. You can either:

    1. Click the attach icon and choose SharePoint, or

    2. Click the SharePoint icon in the left menu bar.

  3. Browse your SharePoint sites and folders, or use the search bar to find a specific document.

  4. Select one or more documents (you can multi-select). Supported file types include DOCX, PDF, and RTF.

  5. The selected documents are uploaded into your conversation, and you can ask questions about them, or use them for providing additional context.

Documents you attach from SharePoint follow the same limits as regular uploads: up to 20 documents per conversation, each up to 10 MB. Documents are scoped to the conversation they were added to and don't appear in other conversations.

What about OneDrive ("My Files")?

Your personal OneDrive files (labelled "My Files" in SharePoint) are accessible through the same integration. When you browse your SharePoint, you'll see your personal OneDrive alongside your team sites.

Access, data storage & permissions

Access

The integration is read-only and uses delegated OAuth on a per-user basis — there is no shared service account. The specific Microsoft permissions (scopes) requested are: Files.Read.All, Sites.Read.All, User.Read, plus the standard identity scopes (openid, profile, email, offline_access). Law Cyborg can only see files the signed-in user already has access to in SharePoint. It cannot modify, delete, or create anything in your SharePoint or OneDrive environment.

Data storage

Law Cyborg does not maintain a mirror, index, or cache of your SharePoint environment. The only time file content leaves SharePoint is when a user explicitly selects a specific file to import into a conversation, at which point it is stored short-term as per our standard data-handling policies. No background syncing or bulk copying occurs.

Permissions & user isolation

Each user must individually link their own Microsoft account. All SharePoint requests are made using that user's own token, meaning one user cannot see another user's files through Law Cyborg — the same access boundaries that exist in SharePoint are fully respected. Account Owners and Admins control whether the integration is enabled for the organisation at all, and all authentication tokens are encrypted at rest.

Troubleshooting

I'm asked to re-link my account

If your Microsoft session has expired or your refresh token has been revoked (for example, if your IT team reset permissions), Law Cyborg will prompt you to link your account again. Simply click Link SharePoint Account and sign in again — your conversations and previously attached documents are not affected.

The sign-in pop-up didn't appear or was blocked

Some browsers block pop-ups by default. Make sure pop-ups are allowed for app.lawcyborg.com in your browser settings, then try again.

I see "SharePoint isn't enabled yet"

This means an Account Owner or Admin hasn't enabled the integration yet. Click Request Integration to notify them, or ask them to follow Step 1 above.

Documents aren't loading or the page crashed

Try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, make sure your browser is up to date. If you're still experiencing problems, contact us via the chat widget or email [email protected].
