Before you sign up for Law Cyborg or add team members, it's helpful to understand how our subscription model works. What are Practice Areas?
Practice areas are specialised AI research assistants, each using its own database containing relevant sources for a specific area of New Zealand or Australian law. Each practice area has:
Curated database - Legislation, cases, and documents specific to that area of law, to ensure answers draw from relevant sources only. These sources are regularly updated
Specialised AI - Built to understand questions, efficiently find the most relevant sources, and deliver high quality answers in that area of law
Available Practice Areas

Q: Can different team members have different subscription configurations?
A: Yes! This is one of Law Cyborg's strengths. Your team can have:
Different plans (some Essential, some Elite)
Different practice areas (each person gets only what they need)
Non-paying admin accounts (practice manages, IT staff)
This flexibility means you only pay for what each person actually uses.
Q: What if I practice in an area of law not listed?
A: Contact us! We're continuously working to expand Law Cyborg's coverage, and our data team takes user feedback seriously. If you're wanting to assess Law Cyborg's suitability for your specific practice, contact our team here to arrange a chat.
Q: Do practice areas cover both New Zealand and Australian Law?
A: No. Each practice area is specific in jurisdiction to either New Zealand or Australia. In Australia, only the Tax practice area is currently available. To be notified when a specific practice area is available in Australia, register your interest here.
Q: What happens if I ask a question outside my practice areas?
A: Law Cyborg will let you know the question is outside your assigned practice areas, and will attempt to answer the question regardless, using the sources available to that practice area. The suitability of the practice area your using for the question can be roughly assessed by checking the estimated certainty score associated with the answer.
